Internship/ Master-Thesis (m/f/d): Motion & Control Technologies in Robotics
Take your next career step at ABB with a global team that is energizing the transformation of society and industry to achieve a more productive, sustainable future. At ABB, we have the clear goal of driving diversity and inclusion across all dimensions: gender, LGBTQ+, abilities, ethnicity and generations. Together, we are embarking on a journey where each and every one of us, individually and collectively, welcomes and celebrates individual differences.
Looking for a taste of working life in an international, future-focused corporate group? Then join us as an intern (m/f/d) and familiarise yourself with a suitable department for 3 to 6 months. You will be involved in large-scale projects and perform a defined set of duties independently. Use your internship to build a network and become familiar with our company. General Description: Efficient automation requires application-oriented thinking with a strong focus on solutions and applications and plays an important role in ensuring today’s standard of living. Automation in general and robotics in particular enable production of goods at high quality and low prices while reducing the consumption of natural resources through efficient manufacturing processes. Major challenges include: Safe, productive, and ergonomic human-robot collaboration High performance motion and force control even in partially unstructured environments Seamless engineering and easy commissioning of automation solutions Intuitive robot programming Machine Learning in industrial robotics applications
Your responsibilities
- Depending on the applicant’s skills and interests, the topics and tasks of an internship in “Robotics and Automation” can be manifold.
- 1) Human-Robot-Collaboration (HRC): Development & evaluation of new concepts incl. validation in a test-rig and/ or simulation for increased manufacturing flexibility and productivity.
- 2) Motion & Force CTRL: Development, evaluation and validation in simulation and/ or test-rig of new control concepts.
- 3) Machine learning: Investigating state of the art machine learning algorithms for robotics, from simulation to real robots, in Python using TensorFlow/PyTorch
- 4) Software development: Development & implementation of robotics software solutions in VisualStudio (C++, C#, JAVA) for intelligent robotics functionalities.
- 5) Mobile Robotics: Safety of industrial mobile robots (IMRs) related to hardware, communication and safety#architecture.
Your background
- Ongoing Master program with focus on Robotics, Control Engineering, Computer Science, Mechatronics or Automation Engineering
- Depending on the subject area: Initial programming skills and experience in Matlab/ Simulink, python, C, C++ or C#; Physical understanding of sensors for environmental detection (radar, laser, vision): In-depth understanding of control engineering methods
- Structured and goal-oriented way of working
- Ability to solve problems efficiently in HW and SW
- Fluent command of English (written and spoken)
More about us
We believe in fairness, so interns who join us will benefit from our expertise as they expand their own knowledge. We give you the scope to try things out for yourself and obtain practical experience. Your time is valuable, so you will receive appropriate remuneration for the duration of the internship. Please note that internships are generally limited to six months, while voluntary internships during a bachelor course are for a maximum of three months. Please state whether you are applying for a voluntary internship or undertaking a mandatory internship, and be sure to enclose your certificate of enrolment. In the case of mandatory internships, please include the corresponding extract from your university’s internship guidelines. Interested? Then we look forward to receiving your informative application (cover letter, CV, certificate of enrolment, current transcript of grades and other supporting documents) through our online careers tool.
