Country Communication Manager

Your role and responsibilities

The Japan country communication manager oversees all internal and external communications for ABB Japan, ensuring ABB’s positioning and message is consistent and engaging, following ABB Corporate communication guidelines and initiatives. The Country Communication Manager is responsible to ensure a balanced profile in Japan, in line with ABB brand positioning.
Country Tier 1 Media relations
- Support management in internal/external communication, arrange Interviews with media and align content to ABB Brand positioning
- Localize ABB Group key global press releases and keep local audiences informed and engaged
- Coordinate Radio / TV interviews if requested (President interview by TV program)
- actively coordinate the various digital marketing channels (X, YouTube, LinkedIn, ABB Viva Engage etc.)
- Content Management for PR TIMES (subscription service) for press release localization
- Maintain Country Japan IPROS business profile (business portal for leads management)
Internal Communication
- Coordinate content, edit and publish all related Internal communication in collaboration with Corporate Communication, Country Japan businesses and functions as required or requested
Management and Crisis Communication
- Localize ABB Group management and crisis communication
- Responsible for local management and crisis communication relevant for Japan
- Support the establishment of communication lines to global team and/or remote local teams in case of natural disaster, global pandemic or other business interruption or crisis such as product failures
- Support HSE when requested
Country web site, social media (SNS) and Country Corporate brochure
- Localize ABB Group news and articles, including translation where applicable
- Select and publish local news, articles, and other business-related information
- Publish in local language JP (incl. translation) ABB quarterly results
- Maintain Company Profile (content adjustment, publishing) as digital and printed media
Corporate Event and local Country event Management
- Actively collaborate with Japan business communicators, lead communications planning and strategy for local projects to ensure smooth and impactful brand exposure according to ABB Brand positioning
- Working with business communicators, support Corporate or regional events, trade shows, exhibitions (e.g., IREX, Formula E) following their requests
- Propose, develop, and execute communications strategy and tactics for local events in alignment with ABB Way, country business and functions to promote ABB Brand internally and externally (e.g. Advising and managing volunteers for internal events like Family Day, interviews, and publishing articles on long-term service employee awards, etc.
- manage external agencies when required for special projects
Regular updates and exchanges with Corporate and Regional Communication heads
- Monthly follow-up with Head of Communications, RA to ensure a fluid collaboration, with reciprocal sharing of Corporate and Country Japan activities, guidance and support where required
- Regular touch point with other Communication teams (e.g. China, Sweden) to learn best practices, form a communication community based on best practices sharing with business communication specialists
Business Communication Specialists Activities Coordination
- Coordination of 4 Business Communication Specialists (EL, MO, PA, RA)
- Establish community of practice with Japan Business communications specialists, share bast practice, provide guidance and punctual support according to their skills and workload
- Day-to-day consultation on business comms.
Budget Controlling
- Managing and applying rigorous cost control to the country communications budget, ensuring trans-parency and maximizing effectiveness and efficiency
- Align with country business leaders for special financing of local country events

Qualifications for the role

  • Undergraduate degree, or higher, in Marketing, PR or other relevant discipline
  • 10 years’ experience in all aspects of Communication Management and Public Relations in a highly matrixed organization
  • Fluency in both English and Japanese (written and spoken) and strong writing/editing skills
  • In-depth demonstrable knowledge and experience of all aspects of internal and external communications
  • Extensive network within the press/media and ability to lead crisis communications autonomously
  • Strong Business partnership, collaboration and communication skills, with deep experience of managing internal and external relationships
  • Pro-active attitude, self-starter and enthusiastic collaborative spirit with high sense of cultural and emotional intelligence
