This position reports to

R&D Principal Engineer

Your role and responsibilities

As an R&D Engineer, you will be responsible for Research, Design and Development of Microgrid solutions in ABB Power Protection, Quartino, Switzerland. You participate in defining and evolving best practices and guidelines for R&D Energy control functional area.
The work model for the role is hybrid. #LI-Hybrid
You will be mainly accountable for:
• Understanding ABB UPS product architecture and designs.
• Understanding interactions of different energy sources and key components.
• Creating Battery based Energy Storage solutions for UPS and Micro grids.
• Defining control and communication concepts for Microgrid solutions.
• Validating and coordinating with different EMS solutions.
• Handling Change Requests, Product localization, optimization, and life cycle management in your functional area.
• Creating and managing technical documentation and reports in support of highly effective and dynamic R&D operations.
• Collaborating within the team and other functional teams to manage the deliverables and improve R&D efficiency.

Qualifications for the role

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical / Electronic Engineering
• 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in development for Power conversion/ Energy storage systems or Microgrid
• solutions
• Experience in Control system development
• Relevant industry standards and grid codes for Energy Storage Solutions
• Experience in programming and simulation tools like MATLAB
• Fluency in English
