This position reports to

R&D Team Lead

Your role and responsibilities

You will join one of our multifunctional Agile Team and be fully accountable of the activity assigned to you, you will have the possibility to interact with the product owner and support in the definition of the global product strategy.
You will be reporting to the R&D Electromechanical Chapter Leader and as Materials Engineer.
You will be responsible for supporting the development teams for materials selection, failure analysis and continuous improvement actions related to materials.
You will also be responsible for materials analysis through the in-house Materials lab and/or External lab for advanced analysis.
You will also be involved in supporting the ABB strategy for transition to new sustainable materials.
1. Lead or be an individual contributor in projects related to materials technology including polymers, metals & advanced manufacturing.
2. Contribute to new product or technology development via materials selection and optimization including processes.
3. Support Innovation, cost reduction & sustainability projects, as appropriate.
Contributes to R&D projects with own, creative ideas. Proposes follow-up projects and activities within own technical area based on new ideas.
4. Collaborate with local and global teams and universities on new materials design projects.
5. Plan & carry out materials analysis to support ongoing programs using existing internal & external resources in a timely manner with the highest quality.
6. Effectively communicate technical information to a wide range of audiences
7. Chemical Management for the site, w.r.t. MSDS, approval for purchase, storage, and disposal.
8. Knowledge transfer
Participates constructively in working teams. Shares own technical/scientific knowledge in own projects and supports colleagues in applying processes and tools to ensure timely and high quality results. Shows solid documentation skills and writes technical reports independently.
9. Network and visibility
Participates in networks in own area, including relevant Engineering networks, in order to further knowledge in targeted area of expertise.

Qualifications for the role

  • 1. BS in Materials or Chemical Engineering with min. 5 years’ experience, or Materials or Chemical engineering with minimum 2 years’ experience in relevant field.
  • 2. Knowledge of material properties and specifications such as ASTM, ISO, GB, etc.
  • 3. Familiar with the common used engineering materials: plastic and metallic and related manufacturing / processing.
  • 4. Hands-on experience in material characterization
  • 5. Awareness on the various manufacturing processes and surface treatments
  • 6. Ability to work independently within an Agile team structure.
  • 7. Familiarity with electrical distribution and low voltage products, is a plus.
  • 8. Strong written and oral communication skills, both in Chinese and English.
  • 9. Good communication and teamwork skills. Strong interpersonal and leadership skills to interact with global teams and to cooperate in cross functional teams.
  • 10. Strong problem-solving skills.
  • 11. Foreign enterprises R&D experience is preferred.
