Context
As part of the development of innovative traction systems using energy storage systems, the Alstom Bangalore site is strengthening its ESS department. We work across disciplines to transform improved hardware and software elements into a single, integrated design. The Role
As part of our ESS Engineering group, his/her mission is to assure the introduction of new technology for development of green battery systems for railway traction and auxiliary applications. The ESS System Engineer is responsible for system engineering studies in order to achieve performance at the train level and compliance with technical requirements. As such, he/she technically manages the development of ESS sub-systems or components made by internal and external suppliers.
He/She must follow the state of the art, define and structure the validation steps of new Battery technologies.
He/She is responsible for the documentation of solutions, the follow-up of their application in the project and the growth of reliability.
Main Responsibilities
For development of Traction and Auxiliary energy storage systems, he/she utilises skills to lead system engineering activities for design and development of next generation traction and auxiliary battery systems. Responsibilities include :-

Collect external (Customers, Standards, Compliance, Regulatory) and internal (Rolling Stock) requirements

Craft creative battery solutions that deliver more energy in smaller spaces than ever before.

Assign - while optimizing the cost - the transversal requirements (EMC, acoustics, reliability, safety, spatial, weight, ...) to various functions of the system, in close collaboration with experts and RAMS engineers.

Write the technical specifications of the system and its components.

In the context of calls for tenders, analyze the technical responses of suppliers and present the technical opinion for supplier choices.

By delegation of the Engineering project manager, manage the technical relationship with the supplier to ensure compliance with quality/cost/deadline commitments.

Technically manage the design of the system with all stakeholders (internal and suppliers) and carry out technical reviews according to the Design For Quality process.

Manage the technical risk control plan with the supplier.

On request, participate in technical meetings with the customer in support of the development manager.

Define the validation strategy with the validation team and participate in bench or train development activities.

Investigate technical facts during the warranty and reliability growth phase of the product, propose technical solutions and manage problem solving.

Ensure the capitalization of feedback on reference solutions or document repositories of the business.
Qualification, Knowledge & Experience

BTech/ MTech degree in electrical/ electronic / automotive or chemistry applied to battery systems.

Minimum 5 years in the design of energy management systems or systems incorporating batteries.

Significant experience in conducting technical projects with suppliers.

Experience in the railway traction and auxiliary batteries would be appreciated.

Should have technical skills on hybrid system architecture for high power applications.

Knowledge of constraints or standards for railway or high-power applications.

Knowledge of Technical Project Management. Training/ certification is a plus.

Knowledge of industrial development cycles (V-cycle, quality reviews, ...)

Understanding of the needs of customers, strength of proposal, responsiveness, autonomy, teamwork and ability to convince will all be qualities necessary for success on the job.

Fluency in English (spoken and written) required for internal and external communications.
