Job Title: Component Sub System Manager (Energy Storage Systems)

Context
As part of the development of innovative traction systems using energy storage systems, the Alstom Bangalore site is strengthening its ESS department. We work across disciplines to transform improved hardware and software elements into a single, integrated design.

The Role
Sub System Manager is responsible for management and successful completion of energy storage systems, fulfilling both customer needs and committed Quality Cost Delivery Performance (QCDP) objectives in a project. He/she manages component level stakeholders, activities and deliverables and make needed arbitration (engineering, product x process, Make or Buy, Costs, Milestones, Interfaces, …) to reach QCDP commitment. SSM coordinates component activities with sub-system stakeholders.
Main Responsibilities
For Traction and Auxiliary energy storage systems, he/she owns QCDP performance of next generation ESS projects. Accountability and responsibility include :-

Contribute to successful Project execution on allocated component scope of work :

Defining and applying the ESS Sub-system Management Plan.

Apply Project Strategy according to defined contractual and project commitments and targets, as allocated.

Actively contribute to Project performance. Alert in case of deviations impacting project objectives; actively contribute to risks and opportunity management.

Ensure compliance with applicable rules, instructions and standards, process & tools: Code of Ethics & Compliance, Environment Health & Safety (EHS), Railway Safety, Quality, Sourcing, PMM.

Lead and coordinate component activities and stakeholders, from requirement capture/analysis to the end of project contractual obligations limited to the ESS scope of work :

Deliver the QCDP commitment of ESS Work Package scope, through proper execution and delivery.

Cascade and allocate ESS requirements and QCDP objectives to ESS team members.

Implement and execute the scope of work according to the respective ESS Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), as defined at Project level at the beginning of the project.

Plan, monitor, control and manage ESS end-to-end activities (scope, schedule, resources, cost, risks, saving, opportunities).

Coordinate and support consistent execution of ESS objectives, activities and deliverables (Engineering, Research & Development programs, Sourcing, Supply Chain, Indus when applicable, RAMS…).

Lead teams in successful achievement of project objectives, synchronize stakeholders at ESS level and ensure stakeholder alignments.

Perform ESS level decisions and trade-offs. Re-baselining and change management at ESS level.

Manage ESS situation and Key Performance Indicators, and report with transparency.

Upon request from PM, is delegated to represent Alstom towards Customer and external stakeholders.

Specific to a ESS Manager, the major part of his/her time constitutes the coordination with Engineering (technical spec and BOQ deliveries), Sourcing (PO requirements), Supply Chain (mainly Logistics Plan). Additionally, the type-testing/ routine testing and customer acceptance process is at the heart of his/her responsibility (i.e. Contractual requirement capture, test plan, collection of evidence, validation of requirement compliance).

Coordinate and synchronize ESS activities with other component and sub-system teams :

Actively contribute to the resolution of overarching/transverse optimizations or issues.

Manage interface with sub-system-level team members & project office (e.g., industrialization, control of configuration management, sourcing, quality) and ask, if necessary, for sub-system manager arbitration.

Specific to a ESS Manager is the management of all the components of his/her sub-system and not only of a single component.

Delivery of ESS/ components in accordance with QCD targets (QCD KPIs) and all contractual requirements
Qualification, Knowledge & Experience

Bachelors/ Masters degree in electrical/ power electronic / automotive engineering.

Minimum 2 years experience as manager of an operational scope preferably working in and with multi-national companies and in diverse business cultures.

Result oriented, good coordination and communication skills with ability for problem-solving and efficient decision-making in complex environment.

Global knowledge on energy storage systems and Li-ion batteries. Leadership and ability to drive teams on technical orientation to reach QCD targets.

Strong knowledge of project management processes and industrial development cycles (V-cycle, quality reviews, ...).

Knowledge of ALSTOM way of working for efficient process exécution is desirable.

Capability to coordinate and ensure collaboration of multi-functional teams.

Fluency in English (spoken and written) required for internal and external communications.
