Design Authority Principle Engineer

Appointment Basis: Permanent
Salary: £65K + Benefits

Could you be the full-time Design Authority Principle Engineer to work on the 'Aventra' Class 710 fleet as it transitions
from the responsibility of Rolling Stock to Services?
Your future role
Take on a new challenge by being based at one of the UK Services Sites and apply your Design Authority Engineering expertise in a new cutting-edge field. You’ll report to Chris English (Professional Head of Engineering), and work alongside a dedicated and passionate Design Engineering team in Alstom UK&I. This is a role which has significant workflow as 'Aventura' fleets (e.g. class 345, class 701, class 710, class 720, class 730) transition to Services. The opportunity offers significant opportunity for career growth.
You will act as the technical expert and design authority for UK 'Aventra' fleets, ensuring all engineering aspects of through life asset management are in place and controlled. Responsible for specifying and validating the rolling stock vehicles or systems throughout its life-cycle and to make decisions on the design of the vehicles/systems and/or to make changes to those vehicles/systems.
We’ll look to you for:
- Ensuring that all areas of engineering work undertaken are compliant with both internal and external customer requirements/specifications and standards as appropriate, including compliance with all internal governance.
- Approval of technical reports and engineering change documentation.
- Supporting the response and investigation to major critical issues on behalf of Alstom’s 'Aventra' fleets to ensure timely resolution of safety and reliability concerns.
- Ensuring consistency and compatibility between all sub-system specifications.
- Providing technical support to the engineering development of the Alstom 'Aventra' Platform.
- Ensuring the technical file of information (e.g. drawings, technical specifications, functional performance, test specifications, test results, material specifications, etc.) for each 'Aventra' fleet is maintained.
- Supporting Design Reviews.
- Supporting the development of maintenance and reliability strategies for current projects and bids.
- Supporting the engineering teams in the resolution of issues, in particular those involving other stakeholders (internal or external).

Mandatory:
- Degree / HND level education in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
- Solid experience in Railway Engineering
- Knowledge of Railway Engineering in the field of fleet management and Engineering Change
- Design Authority Knowledge
- An excellent understanding of the key systems and their integration within rolling stock
- Fluent in English with good communication skills
