Job Description

The Design Assurance Engineer will support our need for component and system obsolescence, upgrades and expansion of existing aircraft capabilities and new product development while meeting the certification standards for the various commercial programs.

As part of the Authorized Delegates group, the candidate will have the responsibility to ensure that compliance has been found against the applicable airworthiness standards within their individual authorization using accepted methods. They determine the level of investigation necessary, review data and reports and conduct any inspections, engineering assessments or witness any component, ground, or flight tests necessary to determine compliance with the applicable requirements and must ensure that compliance has been established and that the data is complete and accurate. They are also support continuing airworthiness and aircraft customizing activities.

This posting is looking for the following competencies:

  • Has experience working with TCCA as an Authorized Person in avionics and electrical systems in making findings of compliance with Standards of Airworthiness or AWM 527 or 529 and approving type design changes or supplemental type design changes .
  • Familiar with system and software integration, system safety assessment, validation and verification testing in systems integration labs, aircraft flight test, and aircraft/system qualification and certification.
  • Adept understanding of aircraft design requirements and validation/certification process.
  • Ability to conduct certification compliance data review/approval and secure the authority’s acceptance:
  • System performance test plans and procedures, analyze results contained in qualification reports for functional and certification testing at the component and system level.
  • Certification deliverables of installed or modified systems
  • Ability to provide technical direction based on the certification requirements & advisory materials.
  • Senior expertise in DO178C design and verification

Relevant working experience in the following areas is preferred:

  • LRU/system testing, Systems Integration Laboratory (SIL) testing and troubleshooting.
  • Generate technical solutions to a wide range of technical tasks. Solutions are thorough, practicable, and consistent with organization and discipline expectations:
  • Development of avionics system requirements and management, systems specifications, architecture and interfaces with other aircraft systems.
  • Development of test requirements to design systems integration lab and flight test aircraft instrumentation design.
  • Coordination with avionics system suppliers in the development, integration and testing of displays, flight instruments, communication and navigation systems, sensor and sighting systems, vehicle health systems and vehicle management systems.
  • Senior expertise on DO-254 is an asset
  • The candidate will be part of Mirabel’s DAO and certification team, reporting to the company’s Certification group.

Qualifications

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.

Position Requirements:

  • Minimum 10 years of pertinent experience in aerospace industries.
  • Minimum of 1 year working experience with TCCA, preferably as an Authorized Person in avionics and/or electrical systems.
  • Good analytical and leadership skills.
  • Strong communication and writing skills in French and English
  • Excellent command of English is required for this position, as it involves communication in English with teams outside of Quebec and/or its suppliers, partners, and clients outside of Quebec.
  • Mentors junior level engineers.
  • Able to coordinate solutions involving multiple organizations or disciplines.
  • DO 178C DAL A to D proven track record

Civil aircraft and systems certification standards:

  • Approval of the Type Design or a Change to the Type Design of an Aeronautical Product.
  • 14 CFR Part 27 & 29, CS-27 & 29, AWM 527 & 529 or equivalent.
  • Certification of TSO article installation on rotorcraft.

Equipment qualification standards:

  • Mandatory : RTCA/DO-178
  • Strong asset : RTCA/DO-254, RTCA/DO-160
  • Asset : MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-883, MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-464, RTCA/DO-311 and RTCA/DO-227

Systems Safety and Reliability Assessments (Asset):

  • SAE ARP 4754A, ARP 4761, MIL-HDBK-217
