About Glencore:

Glencore’s operations in the NACAP region, which includes the Horne Smelter in Rouyn-Noranda, CCR in Montreal, recycling facilities in the USA (Rhode Island and San Jose) and PASAR’s integrated copper operations (smelting and refining). The NACAP region is currently undergoing significant transformation and improvement through major projects focused on enhancing environmental performance, expanding recycling efforts, integrating new technologies to improve processes and modernizing tailings storage facilities.
The Manager will report to the NACAP Major Projects and Technical Groups Manager and will be responsible for strategically planning, coordinating and managing the activities of the project control team that serves the Major Projects team. The project control group’s activities support project teams in controlling costs, schedules, risks, system integration and document control.

Responsibilities:

  • Initiate and keep track of creating and updating project instructions and project control instructions
  • Handle the codification, structure and standardization of project document control
  • Provide all necessary planning and scheduling information (milestones, interfaces, durations, and sequences) for all contract packages to accurately evaluate quotes and compare them with the established timelines
  • Initiate and oversee the development of the cost control process and governance according to the project schedule and strategy
  • Develop a long-term strategic plan for the project control group that serves the Major Projects
  • Ensure Glencore’s project management policies and programs are followed
  • Monitor the team’s performance and identify improvement strategies to achieve excellence
  • Establish and manage the team structure to process all project team requests
  • Organize, participate in and conduct management reviews with relevant site members, teams, organizations and stakeholders
  • Work with technical experts from the Corporate Copper Division
  • Work with auditors and companies designated by the Corporate Division
  • Work closely with directors and managers to implement industry best practices
  • Participate in the division’s and company’s continuous improvement program
  • Stay informed of industry best practices, benchmarking against other companies as needed to support the implementation of improvement strategies
  • Implement a clear, effective and consistent communication structure
Experience and career path:

  • University degree in project management, administration or other relevant field
  • 15 years of experience in managing and controlling major industrial projects, combined with team management experience
  • PMP (Project Management Professional) or other relevant certification is an asset
  • Knowledge of best practices in industrial project management and control
  • Knowledge of cost control and project schedule management tools associated with the project management framework, such as Primavera (P6), Monte Carlo simulation, PRiSM, SAP, S-Curve and more
  • Fluent in written and spoken English and French
