About the role:
At MRM, we’re looking for a Geotechnical Engineer to join our Mine Technical Services team in a PERMANENT role to help develop and deliver accurate geotechnical plans and operational designs in accordance with the Ground Control Management Plan.
Apply what you know to engage with a number of stakeholders throughout the business to achieve various targets and support the Mine Standard. Your responsibilities will include, however are not limited to;
Key Responsibilities:
- Undertaking mine geotechnical designs & assessments, monitoring, analysis, modelling, as well as QA/QC for the open cut operation with consideration to historic underground workings.
- Identifying geotechnical hazards and recommending remedial measures or safety controls in accordance with industry best practice and the site GCMP
- Engaging with stakeholders to deliver the mine plan safely, economically and efficiently.
- Developing safe work practices for work on or around slopes
- Contributing to & implementing standards & procedures in respect slope / ground monitoring / control and mine infrastructure;
- Conducting geotechnical inspections of pits, dumps & stockpiles to ensure compliance to national legislation and meet the sites requirements.
- Advise & assist stakeholders with recommendations on geotechnical issues regarding mine design/planning & operations as requested.
Successful Applicants Will Have:
- Demonstrated knowledge of large open pit mining operations that includes a minimum of two years’ experience working in a similar role. Understanding of anisotropic deposits is favourable.
- Knowledge of industry standard modelling and mine design systems is required, in particular Vulcan and Rocscience suite;
- Excellent communication and report writing skills;
- Bachelor of Civil Engineering majoring in geotechnical engineering, or similar relevant tertiary qualification from a recognised tertiary institution.
