What's the role?

The Technical Manager in Electrical Engineering is responsible for the technical direction of the service engineering team through the investigation and resolution of customer vehicle failures, reliability issues and the development of aftermarket options for our customers.

He is central to all phases of the project, from problem definition to solution implementation strategy at customer sites. He acts as a coach and mentor to the team, and offers outstanding support to his teammates.

What are the main responsibilities of the job?

  • Technical follow-up of the electrical engineers of the Service Engineering team and support in their activities;
  • Determine the technical requirements of projects and define the work in preparation for execution by the team;
  • Guide the team through the milestones of the development/investigation process and ensure the quality and effectiveness of the proposed solutions;
  • Guide the team in the analysis of issues raised on customer vehicles;
  • Represent the Service Engineering team in the approval process for service bulletins and vehicle recalls;
  • At the technical level, provide governance, decision-making, problem-solving, coordination and other related tasks to meet the Service Engineering team's quality and schedule objectives;
  • Collaborate with the company's various design teams on customer and vehicle reliability issues;
  • Ensure that vehicle improvement and maintenance solutions are put into production;
  • Implement design methodologies and integrate them into the company's design tools;
  • Participate in the technical training and development of the service engineering team;
  • Participate in the hiring process of new team members;
  • Master heavy vehicle systems.

What do you need to succeed in this position?

Knowledge

  • Mastery of electrical engineering principles;
    • High-power battery systems;
    • Logic controllers and embedded software;
    • AC and DC distribution systems;
    • Multi-phase motors;
  • Mastery of communication protocols and hardware layer: CANBus network, J1939, Lin;
  • Knowledge of heavy vehicle systems;
  • Knowledge of CAN network data analysis;
  • Mastery of tools, MS Office Suite.
  • Bilingualism essential (French, English);
    • This position requires knowledge of intermediate to advanced oral and written English on a daily basis, in order to communicate with suppliers and colleagues located outside Quebec.
  • Assets :
    • Experience with IQAN suite; Matlab - Simulink suite;
    • Experience with vehicle controllers; M560, Actia, Parker
    • Knowledge of a 3D CAD program (SolidWorks and Catia V5) for wiring layouts
    • Mastery of a PDM/PLM system, 3DExperience
    • Practical knowledge of charging stations;

Required training and experience

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related field;
  • 10 years' experience in electrical engineering;
  • 1-3 years' experience as technical leader of a team of engineers;
  • Experience in heavy vehicle systems;
  • Member of the Ordre des Ingénieurs du Québec.

Additional information

  • This is a face-to-face position, 3 days a week or more, depending on business needs.
  • Interest in working in a constantly evolving environment;
  • Willingness to travel in Quebec, Canada and the United States (less than 5%).
